Carolyn Proctor Cowger Drake passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017 at The Meadow of Orange, Texas, where her granddaughter is a nurse.  She was known as “Nannie” to her grandchildren and “Auntie LaLa” to her nieces and nephews.  

Carolyn was born December 31, 1936, in Eagle Mills, Arkansas.  She graduated high school in El Dorado, Arkansas.  She was a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America and managed Given’s Jewelers in Heart of Bossier for years.  In the mid-1970s, she studied insurance and became a life insurance agent for Metropolitan Life.  During the 1980s and 1990s, she owned her own crop insurance agency in Coushatta, Louisiana.  Later in life, she worked for Hudson House Interiors.  In 2009, she moved to be near her daughter and grandchildren in Westlake, Louisiana.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her first husband Charles Cowger, and husband Ray Drake of Coushatta, Louisiana; and her mother and father Lindsey and Kathlyn Proctor of Blanchard, Louisiana.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Diane Cowger Oden and husband, Ridley Oden, Jr.; her grandchildren Dylan Oden, Megan Oden, and Micah Oden all of Westlake; her sister Marilyn Drake and brother Mitchell Proctor and his wife Dixie of Bossier City; brother Dennis “Buddy” Proctor of Shreveport; and brother John Proctor and his wife Patsy of Benton, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Mount Zion Cemetery in Panola,Texas on Thursday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m.  Wendell Glass will officiate.  Memorial donations may be made to the Our Lady Queen of Heaven School Library, 3908 Creole St., Lake Charles, LA 70605.  Local arrangements were made under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home.
