Gwendolyn "Gwen" Sheffield

Gwendolyn "Gwen" Sheffield, age 88, of Orange, Texas, went to her heavenly home surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, April 12, 2018 in Beaumont, Texas. Services to honor Gwen's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Brother John Mastrovich officiating. Interment will follow on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce, Texas. A gathering of family friends will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Dorman Funeral Home.

Gwen was born on April 19, 1929 in Dallas, Texas, to Orianna McDonnold Coney and Lowell Coney. She was one of three children that her parents raised in the Ladonia /Commerce, Texas, area and had a wonderful childhood of which she was proud to share her fond memories. Gwen referred to her childhood as "The Happy Home-Life" where her days were filled with fun-play-days with her sister, Lowell Ray.  

She married her sweetheart, L M Sheffield, on August 31, 1945 and they were happily married for 55 wonderful years. The two dedicated their life to the ministry. L M and Gwen served at many different churches throughout their career together and raised two sons that both became ministers. Her family is what she considered to be the greatest achievement in her life.

She enjoyed Bible study and the everyday blessings of God and the joys of having Jesus in her life since she was 14 years old. Until the end, she stayed her course of serving God and read at least 10 chapters a day in her well-worn Bible. Gwen also enjoyed crocheting, doing cross word puzzles and was an avid reader.

Gwen is now visiting with all of the loved ones who have gone to Heaven before her, which include her husband L M Sheffield and her parents, Lowell and Orianna Coney as well as many other family members and close friends.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Bill Sheffield and his wife Carolyn of Elkins, AR and Don Sheffield and his wife Sherry of Mauriceville, TX. her brother, Donald J. Coney and his wife Cheryl of Dallas, TX and sister, Lowell Ray McCormack of Sherman, TX. four grandchildren: Karen Loyd and her husband Randy, Kristie Shook and her husband Kevin, Joel Sheffield, Patrick Sheffield and his wife Kellie. Eight great-grandchildren: Zachary Loyd and his wife Katey, Nathan Loyd, Kaleb Shook, Kinzie Shook, Christlyn Sheffield, Colt Sheffield, Brooklin Sheffield and Kennadee Sheffield. Her first great-great-grandchild: Leah Elizabeth Loyd.

Pallbearers honoring their Grammaw Gwen will be: Colt Sheffield, Joel Sheffield, Patrick Sheffield, Nathan Loyd, Zachary Loyd and Kaleb Shook.
