Rene Louis Mungaray was born on July 19, 1944, to Baldomero "Chito" and Rosalie (Palacios) Mungaray in Long Beach California. Rene entered his rest on March 9, 2024.
Rene is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Manuel and Mario Mungaray, David and Sylvia Munoz, his daughter Lisa Mungaray, and grandsons Donovan Mungaray and Joseph Smith.
Rene is survived by his former wives Irene Mungaray and Charlotte Elliott, as well as his sisters Lydia Nishijima, Linda Melendez, Cathy Castro, Anna Koenigsberg, Irene Luna, Vivian Perlin and Rosalie Mohar-Marty. He is survived by his children Louie, Aaron, David, and Emmanuel Mungaray, Devra (Mungaray) Smith, and Faith (Mungaray) Heller and his grandchildren, Ty Smith, Octavia Weimer and Abel Heller, Jake, Ava, Emmanuel, Aiden, and Ariana Mungaray.
Rene lived in San Pedro and Wilmington, CA as a young man, then settled in Cottonwood, AZ in the early 1970s. He spent the last year of life with his daughters Devra and Faith near Beaumont, TX. Rene was a working man, he worked for Todd Shipyard, the Anaconda Copper Mining Company, various grocers including Babbitts and Bashas, he also worked in construction, he loved sharing stories of building bridges and landscaping. In retirement he earned an associate degree, Rene was a lifelong learner. Rene devoted his retirement to a life of service, dedicating his time as a volunteer at the food pantry operated by his home church. Rene maintained a strong commitment to AA and to every person that found their way to the program. He lived a life of service and never asked for anything in return, he truly lived his life like Jesus. If you got the opportunity to chat with him or get advice from him, he would always point you to the Bible, "the only book worth reading" he'd say, even with shelves full of interesting books sitting behind him.
A memorial will be held for Rene on July 19th, 2024, in San Pedro, California.
