Billy Blakeney Obituary

Billy Duane Blakeney, a life-long resident of Deweyville, TX, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, December 31, 2018, due to complications from bladder cancer.

Born June 17, 1945 in Athens, TX to Robert Ernest "Fritz" Blakeney and Wilma Elizabeth Greene, he was the second of three children. He graduated from Deweyville High School in 1964. He married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Jane Stansbury, daughter of Howard Irvin Stansbury and Mable Adrain Trahan, on January 14, 1967. Married for almost 52 years, they had five children. Upon his return from a brief stationing in California for the Air Force, he worked as a control room operator at Solvay Solexis for over 30 years. He was very active in his faith, having joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1978, and serving as a Bishop and a Service Missionary. Billy was a loving husband and devoted father, often seen at local sporting and band events cheering for his children. He was also an adoring grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. Billy loved camping, hiking, kayaking, canoeing and just being outdoors. He was a noble example of Christian service, always willing to lend a helping hand and reach out to others. He will be greatly missed.

Preceded in death by his parents.
