Cory Gerard Benoit, age 29, of Mauriceville, Texas, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017 in Beaumont, Texas, surrounded by his loving family and friends. A celebration of Cory Gerard’s life will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Dorman Funeral Home.

Cory Gerard was born in Orange, Texas on Thursday, April 7, 1988 to Jeanne (Person) and Gerard Matthew “Poppa” Benoit. He grew up in Mauriceville, Texas and only recently in the past 3 years had he lived in Nederland, Texas. He was of the Catholic Religion. Cory graduated from Little Cypress Mauriceville High School and attended college on an academic scholarship, at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. After college, he returned to Mauriceville, Texas and started working as a teller for Wells Fargo. During the ten years he worked there he advanced his way up to Branch Manager. Cory was a very happy man who enjoyed just living out his life. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, hiking, reading books, woodworking and his most recent endeavor, flipping homes. Cory had a special love and fascination with the outdoors and hiking. He loved to get in tune with nature and make many wonderful memories with friends while hiking and camping at the Frio River, Big Thicket National Forest, Garner State Park, the mountains in Kerrville, Texas and the hills of San Antonio, Texas. Cory always made sure he brought his dogs on his adventures with him as they always made great company and enjoyed road tripping with him. He was a very witty, intelligent, sweet, giving man who was truly everyone's friend. He never met a stranger, no matter where in the world he went. Everyone that knew Cory, trusted him with even the most personal things about them. Cory impacted and changed many lives with his loving and caring personality and his ability to help so many people. Cory was a son, brother, nephew, grandson, cousin and friend and will be loved and missed greatly by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Virgil Person; uncle, Jon Person; grandfather, Blackie Benoit; grandmother, Martha Sue Benoit; uncle, Mark Benoit and uncle, Ricky Dale Benoit.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother and father, Matt and Jeanne Benoit; his only brother, Matthew Dale Benoit, who Cory always referred to as his Bubba; his grandmother, Betty Person; his aunts, Donna Person; Janet Barrios and husband, Mark; Yvonne Fisher and husband David; Geralyn Benoit; Teresa Kay Burk and his uncle, Jerry Person and wife Sheila; along with many cousins and extended family. There are some family and friends who were very close to Cory and stand out in his life, those include; Mike Cox, Rachel Lawrence, Alesa Braband, Jennifer Dalton, Derek Barrios, Kyle Fisher, Morgan Fisher and Maggie Fisher. Cory will always and forever be Maggie’s ‘PeaPie’.
