Hal Sebern Broomes, 66, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019 in Beaumont, TX.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Dorman Funeral Home in Orange, TX. Brother Lynn Ashcraft will be officiating.
Born on Wednesday, October 8, 1952, the son of Ella (Guillory) and Floyd Lee Broomes, Sr., he was a lifelong resident of Orange.
Hal was a loving, good-hearted man that was a shining light of integrity, honesty and faithfulness to those around him.
He met his bride in high school, Cynthia Denise (Kennedy), and they married in 1976. Hal and Denise were married for 43 memorable years. In 1983, they welcomed their daughter, Lindsay.
Hal was an exceptional, trusted and well-known boat mechanic. He was able to hear a boat motor crank, from afar, and decipher what engine it was and its condition. He was a key member of several boat racing teams throughout the years. The engines he built have raced locally, throughout the U.S., as well as internationally. One of the accomplishments that he treasured the most, in his career, was when he received his Certificate of Mercury Master Mechanic.
He was calculated and resourceful. If he didn't have the tool he needed, he would make it.
Hal had a “boat load” of friends, so to speak. He was a son, great grandson, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He planted lasting memories with each of his family and friends and the impact he has made on his community will be remembered.
Hal is preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Floyd Broomes, Sr.; brothers, Floyd Lee Broomes, Jr. and Dwayne Broomes; and sister-in-law, Donna Broomes.
Hal is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Denise Broomes; daughter, Lindsay and husband Rick of Katy, TX; brother, Ray Broomes of Orange, TX; sister, Donna Alexander and husband Mike of Hemphill, TX; sister-in-law(s), Mary C. Broomes and Rosemary Broomes of Orange, TX; brother-in-law, Mark Kennedy of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Rylee (8) and Logan (5), as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations are being received in Hal’s memory and may be sent to First Financial Bank (912 North 16th Street, Orange, TX 77631) to the benefit account for Denise Broomes.
