Hyman Taylor Obituary

Hyman K Taylor, 80, of Orange, died Saturday, October 26th in Orange of complications of Parkinson’s disease. A memorial service will be held at Dorman Funeral Home Chapel in Orange on Tuesday, October 29th at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastor Ron Miller of the Bridge City Church of Christ.

Hyman was born January 2, 1939, in Overton, Texas, the son of John D Taylor and Thelma Busby Taylor. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur he served in the United States Air Force. Upon returning to civilian life, he began a long career as a draftsman, while working to earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in Drafting Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology. After earning these two degrees, he became a drafting instructor at Lamar University-Orange. He later returned to his career as a draftsman, retiring from Bell Engineering of Vidor.

After becoming an Eagle Scout as a young man, he continued to work with the Boy Scouts as an adult leader with various Boy Scout troops in the Orange area. During this time he also taught a Sunday School class for teens at the 9th and Burton Church of Christ, and later taught an adult Bible class at the 40th Street Church of Christ. Hyman loved to sail, and was an active member of the Port Arthur Yacht Club, serving for two years as Commodore. While teaching drafting at Lamar University-Orange, he also taught sailing for a number of years as a class at the college.

He was preceded in death by his parents John D Taylor and Thelma Busby Taylor Tejeda, his first wife, Patricia Anne Sartin Taylor, his brother, Kirby Lee Taylor, and a son, Stuart Randall Taylor.

He is survived by his second wife, Martha (Marty) Peveto Taylor of Orange, and his son, Stephen Taylor and wife Elizabeth of Austin.
