On Sunday, November 22, 1936, Tot was born to Elmira and Joseph Herrin, in Newton, Texas. In December 1960, Tot enlisted into the United States Army and served bravely for his country in Trp L 3d Recon Sqd 11th Arm Cav as an Infantryman. Tot, Sgt E-5, received an honorable discharge, in December 1966, and returned home. He remained in the Newton county area until the opportunity to work for Orange Ship Building brought him to Orange, Texas. Tot was an extremely hard working man, who worked for many years as a Pipefitter and later retired in 2002, at the age of 65. Together, Tot and his loving wife, Vernice, raised their two beautiful children in Orange, Texas. In addition to his hard work ethic, Tot‘s military stuck with him. He was known for always being neat and organized, disciplined, and for his ability to always be on time. At home, Tot enjoyed spending time outside, working in his yard and listening to good country music. Tot was a father, brother, grandfather, and friend, who will be missed by all who knew him.
Preceding Tot in death are his wife, Vernice Herrin, and his parents, Joseph and Elmira Herrin.
Tot’s memory will be cherished most by his son, Luke Herrin and his wife, Robin, of Orange, Texas; daughter, Tonja McCarver, of Orange, Texas; brother, Milton Herrin and his wife, Glenda; sisters, Norma Hubbard and her husband, Chuck, and Rose Bailey, and her husband, Don; grandchildren, Dakota Carpenter and Malori Herrin; and numerous members of extended family and friends.
