Jerry Arlene Sonnier

Jerry Landers Sonnier, age 85 of Deweyville, Texas, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 22, 2019 at her home. Service to honor Jerry's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Dorman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Anthony officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday at Dorman Funeral Home.

Jerry was born on March 13, 1934 in Port Arthur, Texas to Besse Jones Lewis and Tully Monroe Lewis. She was a crafter and accomplished seamstress. Jerry and Leroy were blessed to live at Toledo Bend and could always be found catching fish. She was all about her family, especially the grandchildren and their summer trips to her house, where she was able to spoil them. Jerry had a kind loving heart that was always willing to open her home and take care of others. She and her first husband, Joel cared for over 47 foster children. She was the caregiver to many of her loved ones, including her fathers-in-law, Papaw Landers and later Lucas Sonnier.

She is preceded in death by her parents Tully and Besse Lewis, first husband of 27 years Joel Landers, brothers; Lamar Lewis, Leon Lewis, Kennith Lewis and Rex Lewis.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 40 years, Leroy Joseph Sonnier, children; Joyce Landers Higgs and her husband Steve of Bridge City, TX, James "Butch" Lamar Landers of Crockett, TX,  Keith Sonnier and his wife Jan of Port Arthur, TX, Jacquie Duval and her husband Albert of Port Arthur, TX, Julie Linscomb and her husband Clyde of Mauriceville, TX, Oran Sonnier and his wife Peggy of Carthage, TX, and Jane Bass and her husband Jerry of Deweyville, TX, sixteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be Derek Bass, Kyle Sonnier, Lucas Duval, James Duval, Ben Higgs, Trey Sonnier, Oran Sonnier, Jr. and Joel Landers.
