Sammy Simmons, age 71 of Orange, Texas, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017 in Beaumont, Texas. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 3:00-6:00 PM on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Dorman Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home.

Sammy was born on Thursday, January 7, 1946 in Rockport, Texas to Hattie Rosemary (Hampton) and Edward Everett Simmons. He was born and raised in Rockport before moving to Beaumont, Texas as an adult. He lived all of his adult life in Beaumont before moving to Orange, Texas 11 years ago to be closer to his children. Sammy made a living working on computer controlled machines in Hospitals and places that used MRI, Cat Scan and other similar machines in medical technology. He spent many hours repairing the machines, which wasn't a job most people had the skill set to do, considering computer technology was just on the horizon of making a huge impact on the world. He was a jokester all the way. He would always pick and play in good fun and always had a story to tell. Even while he was in the hospital, he had every nurse in the place laughing. Everyone was always impressed with his positive, upbeat attitude. He would literally give the shirt off of his back or the last dollar he had to anyone in need. Sammy loved many things in life, such as arguing with the TV about politics, gardening, playing with his dog, Kilo, cooking and baking, painting, photography, working on cars, making stop motion videos and much, much more. Many knew him as, the "jack of all trades and master of none". Above all, family time was Sammy's favorite time as he loved getting to visit with loved ones while sharing many great stories and making many wonderful memories.

Sammy is preceded in death by his parents, Hattie Rosemary (Hampton) and Edward Everett; brothers, Edward "Pee Wee" Simmons and Kenny Simmons.

Those that will cherish his memory most are his children, Mark Simmons and wife, Crystal from Orange, Texas, Marie Tinsley and husband, William, Jr. from Orange, Texas and Michelle Bolt of Houston, Texas; sisters, Sissie LeBlanc of Vidor, Texas and Rosemary Smith of Orange, Texas; grandchildren, Bradley Barlow, Hannah Eubanks and husband, Taylor, Rebekah Harrod, Emelie Simmons, Darian Simmons, Chrisoula Balias and husband George, Grant Hoelscher and Sarah Hoelscher as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
