Christopher James Verrett

Christopher “Chris” James Verrett, age 50, of Orange, Texas, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2020. Funeral services, under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home, will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at Dorman Funeral Home in Orange, Texas. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow services at St. Mary Cemetery in Orange, Texas.

Christopher was born on Sunday, October 19, 1969, in Orange, Texas to parents, Annette Marie (Thibodeaux) and Earl James Verrett. Chris was a lifelong resident of Orange, Texas and a graduate of LCM Highschool. Chris met the love of his life when he came to know Sherry. The couple courted for 14 years before marrying on April 16, 2006. They shared 21 blissful years together but made a lifetime of memories. He loved spending quality time with his family, every chance that life allowed, and most specifically on Sundays. Sunday gatherings with his family consisted of lots of love, laughter, movies, storytelling, great food and mid-day couch naps. His grandchildren were the absolute light of his life and brought him copious amounts of joy. He considered his daughter, Ashley, as his best friend but her husband, Dexter, was deemed his favorite “kid”. Chris had a huge heart and would literally go without for himself to give you his last dollar and the shirt off of his back if you needed it. Fishing was one of his favorite hobbies aside from racing cars and building and fixing cars. He was an avid racer at the Evadale, Texas Race Track where he raced his 33 Willys as part of the 409 RACING TEAM. He was one of the hardest workers anyone ever knew and loved his job. So much so that he even insisted on still going to work while he was ill.

Chris was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and friend, whom will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him.

Chris is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Sherry Newman Verrett; son, Jacob Verrett; daughters, Amy Newman, Nicole Newman, as well as Ashley Verrett and spouse Dexter Gibson; sisters, Melissa McCorry and husband Brian, as well as, Tiffany Shoemaker and husband David; grandchildren, Branson Gibson, Cayson Gibson, Frankie Gibson, Alexander Smith, Noah Newman and Rosaleigh Smith; nieces, Jenna McCorry and Olivia Shoemaker; nephews, Tyler McCorry, Michael Shoemaker and Joseph Shoemaker; father, Earl “Jimmy” Verrette, Jr.

Chris is preceded in death by his mother, Annette Verrett; grandparents, Marian Verrett, Earl Verrett, Waldon Birchmans Thibodeaux and Ruby Helen Patin.

Pallbearers honoring Chris; Lonnie Brown, Keith Hlavinka, Daniel Wheeler, Dexter Gibson, Eric Brown, Buddy Bouley, Jason Roy and Tam Nguyen, as well as honorary pallbearers, Jacob Verrett and Roger Jeanise.
