David Alan Taylor “D.T.”, age 67, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. A memorial service honoring D.T. will be held at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at First Baptist Church West Orange, 608 Dayton St., Orange, Texas, 77630. Following the service, the family would like to welcome everyone to join them in the dining hall, where food and beverages will be provided, and happy memories will be shared amongst all.
On Wednesday, August 31, 1955, D.T. was born to proud parents, James and Phyllis Taylor, in Selma, Alabama. D.T. was a West Orange-Stark High School Chief; Class of 1973. After high school, D.T. went on to attend the University of Southwest Louisiana Lafayette, where he proudly played college football. After college, D.T. worked as a construction planner, for Dupont, and was also a member of Colony Baptist Church. D.T. was a man like no other! If love, humility, and compassion had a human form, then it was him. He was an icon worthy of emulation and a true definition of what a father should be like. He was a hero, a strong support system, and a strong, hardworking man, who was always there for his family. D.T. was kind, caring, and understanding towards people, and if help was ever needed, then it came freely from him. He was selfless and highly principled, standing firm for what he believed was in the general interest of everyone. The family feels so incredibly grateful to have been blessed with spending the last moments with him. D.T. was a fighter and he fought his battle well, until he could fight no more. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Preceding D.T. in death is his beloved wife, Mary Taylor; mother, Phyllis Taylor; brother, Eddie Taylor; sister, Judy James; and bonus mom, Lois Hodgen.
D.T. is survived by his oldest daughter Shannel Taylor & fiancé, Jason Dyson; middle daughter, Meritta Dawn Norwood & husband, Michael Norwood; youngest daughter, Tasha Baumgartner & husband, Tony Dale Baumgartner; stepson, Shane Borel; grandchildren, Matthew Broussard, Madison Dyson, Davian Cormier, Ashtyn Jenkins, and Aaron Norwood; brothers, Jimmy Taylor and Jerry Oglesbee; nephews, Adam Taylor, Brandon Taylor, Jason Taylor, Josh James, and Jordan James; bonus dad, Fred Hogden; numerous great-nieces and great nephews; many members of extended family; and a lifetime of friends.
“Our silent tears flow each time we remember he's gone but his loving, caring, fatherly role and legacy will continue to give solace to our humble hearts. The morals and values he taught us will continue to be a guiding light in our lives and the lives of his grandchildren.”
