Emma Jean was born on Friday, August 5, 1927 in Orange, Texas to parents, Nora (Holiman) and Ruben Berwick. Emma Jean was a lifelong resident of Orange, Texas, where she was known as “The Card Lady”, and loved by everyone that she came in contact with. She was dubbed, “The Card Lady”, because she gave cards to a host of people ranging from children to the elderly. Everyone got a card for their birthday, Christmas, Easter, Valentines Day, as well as any other holiday that came up. She made people feel very loved and special by sending those cards to let them know that she was thinking of them. Emma Jean was a proud member of Little Cypress Baptist Church since she was 20 years old. Her membership at that church was 72 years strong and the longest current membership to date. She took on a very important roll in the church as the secretary in the children’s department for over 15 years. Emma Jean never had any children of her own but she very much so considered all of those wonderful children that she looked after every Sunday, to be hers. That exact same love was reciprocated by all of the children. She always made sure that not only did they have their own personal cards and gifts, but she would decorate the Sunday School rooms in birthday or holiday themes, which always made them very happy. She worked for over 40 years at DuPont as a lead secretary before retiring. She was a fierce, determined woman that was going to have it her way. She enjoyed life to the fullest. There wasn’t a day go by that Emma Jean didn’t truly live her life the way she wanted to. She loved working outside in her yard every day that she was able to and had one of the best groomed and manicured yards in all of Orange, Texas. Even at the age of 92, you could drive by her home on Meeks drive and see her out in the yard, pulling weeds and tending to her flowers. Her yard had to be absolutely perfect and it always was. No one will ever keep that lawn as neat as she did. Often times people would be driving by and see Emma Jean in her yard, sitting down, pulling weeds, so they would stop and ask if she was okay or needed help. Emma Jean would then smile, stand up, wave and let them know she was A-Okay. Emma Jean was a very unique lady who never met a stranger and loved life. Emma Jean was a loving wife, wonderful friend and exemplary Christian, who will forever be loved and missed by all her knew her.

Emma Jean is survived by the loving Bland Family and Mosier Family, who treated her like family of their own rather than just best friends, as well as a host of other friends and her church family.

Emma Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Kenneth Dickerson.
