Evelyn Marie Forehand Denham was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on December 2, 1934. She went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2023, at her home in Conroe, Texas. She was devoted to the care of her children and grandchildren. She loved music, gardening, and most especially, the Lord. Her biggest passion in life was reading and watching British murder mysteries and true crime documentaries. Mrs. Denham also greatly enjoyed her ladies’ group at her church, especially when they were going out to eat after their meetings.
While only receiving a rudimentary formal education, she succeeded in achieving her GED in her forties while also succeeding as a mother and grandmother. This was typical of her quiet yet formidable nature. Mrs. Denham also raised five of her six children alone when her husband was stationed away while in the military. She was known to be quite a good handyman when the need arose, and she instilled this same sense of independence in her children. All of her children knew that she was constantly praying for them and was their biggest cheerleader.
Her family will miss her quiet yet quick wit, her mordant sense of humor, and her gentle love and support, not to mention her banana pudding. Her family loved her greatly.
Mrs. Denham is preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Forehand, her husband, Billy, her daughter, Billie Jean, and her grandchildren, Johnny Perry and Chrissy Denham. She is survived by her children, Deborah Sunderland of Buna, Sheila Bembry and husband John of Bridge City, Gena Loomis and husband Doug of Conroe, Ronald Denham and wife Ginny of Orange, and Holly Davis and husband Chad of Galveston. She is also survived by enough grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren to populate a village.
Services for Mrs. Denham will be Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Dorman Funeral Home in Orange, Texas, at noon, and visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon immediately preceding the services. Interment will immediately follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park. Her beloved son-in-law, Doug Loomis, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
