Flora Ellen (Babb) Gilbert

Flora Ellen Babb Gilbert, age 84 of Orange, Texas. passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22nd, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinsons. Visitation and services will be held at Dorman Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 10:00 am with Pastor Paul Zoch officiating. Interment will be at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 11:00 am.

"Flo" as she was known, was born May 3, 1936 in Crockett, Texas. She was the daughter of William Rhodes “Buck" Babb and Mary Pearl Babb.

Flo graduated from Ball High School in 1954 where she was a member of the Tornettes drill team. She married Frank B. Gilbert, Jr. on July 23, 1955 at St. Patricks Church in Galveston, Texas. In 1955 she was a Medical Illustration Assistant in Galveston. Later she attended nursing school in Orange, Texas. and obtained her LVN license. She was a nurse at Orange Memorial Hospital until her retirement in the early 90's.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Orange, Texas. Following the closing of Trinity Lutheran she attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bridge City.

She was a member of Community Partners along with her husband Frank. They were instrumental in keeping the Rainbow Room in Orange well stocked for children in need. In 2004 Flo received the Worker Bee award from Orange Community Partners Board. In 2008 they received the Emmylou Baldridge Award for Outstanding Adult Volunteers in Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents William Rhodes “Buck” Babb and Mary Pearl Myers, brothers Albert Babb and Floyd Myers Jr., sisters Dovie Lucille Babb and Mamie Lois Babb, daughter Judith Gilbert Swan and husband Frank B. Gilbert Jr.

She is survived by her loving children Foster Gilbert of Deweyville, Linda Gilbert Bailor of Austin, Frank B. Gilbert III (Trey) all of Orange, her brother Johnny Babb as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
