Hershel Arnold Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce on the 16th day of January, 2024 at Baptist hospital in Beaumont, Texas the passing of Herschel Neil Arnold, a free spirit,  family man, and avid outdoorsman. Neil peacefully departed this world at the age of 72, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a profound appreciation for life.

Born on September 21st, 1951 in Tyler, TX to Herschel Charley and Jeninne Magee Arnold, Neil was a true child of the '60s, embracing the counterculture movement with open arms. As a young man, he found his identity as a hippie, immersing himself in the music, art, and values that defined that era. Neil’s adventurous spirit and love for freedom became the guiding principles of his life.

A dedicated hunter and fisherman, Neil had a deep connection with the great outdoors. Whether he was camping beneath the stars, casting a line into some murky river water, or not so patiently or quietly waiting in the wilderness in hopes a whitetail would step out, he found solace and joy in nature. His passion for hunting and fishing wasn't just a hobby; it was a way for him to connect with his family and find peace within himself.

Beyond his love for the outdoors, Neil’s greatest joy came from his role as a grandfather. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, imparting wisdom, sharing stories of his youth, and creating lasting memories that will be treasured for generations. His eyes would light up with pride as he watched them grow, always ready with a warm smile and an encouraging word.

Neil will be remembered as a friend to many, a stranger to none, and a genuine example of how to treat people with kindness, and compassion. His family will recall the laughter they shared during long, carefree days, and will forever hold onto the love that he showered upon them.

He is preceded in death by his father Herschel Charley.

He is survived by his Mother Jeannine Magee Arnold of Arp, TX, His Brother Randall (Kay) Arnold of New London, TX, His Daughters Cassie (Cody) Nelms of Devils Pocket, Tx, Randie Arnold of Deweyville, TX, 3 Grandchildren Cole (Kelsie) Nelms of Devils Pocket, Tx, Callie (Donovan) Weldon of Orangefield, Tx, Gavin Arnold of Deweyville, Tx, 8 Great-Grandkids, and numerous other family and friends.

As we say our goodbyes, let us remember Neil Arnold as a man who marched to the rhythm of his own drum, embraced life's adventures, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

As per his wishes, the family will hold a private memorial in remembrance of Neil.
