Johnny was born on November 29, 1945. From birth, Johnny was given the Nickname “Johnny Boy”. He was born to Johnny (John) Raymond Sims, Sr. and Ruby Ray (Jackie) Sims, in Lufkin, Texas. After Johnny graduated from Lufkin High School, in 1962, he went on to enlist in the Army National Guard, to serve his country.

After his Honorable military discharge, from the Army National Guard, Johnny went to work for the railroad, at (SR&N) Sabine River & Northern Railroad, in Orange, Texas. As a Locomotive Engineer, Johnny loved his job driving his engine #1759; blowing that whistle! It ran in his blood, being the third generation of a Locomotive family; grandfather and father were also locomotive engineers. Johnny worked 40 years, as a train engineer, before retiring in 2008, from SR&N Railroad.

In 1964, Johnny met Carolyn Ann Acosta at her home, in Nacogdoches, Texas. It was love at first sight. They got married on Veteran’s Day, on November 11, 1965. Johnny and Carolyn went on to have three children; Rhonda Kay Sims Butts, Johnny (John) Raymond Sims 3rd, and Robert (Jeff) Jeffrey Sims.

Johnny enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a diehard Dallas Cowboys Fan and loved watching the football games with his family, having cookouts, especially Fish Fry’s and being the #1 Fish Sampler to make sure the boy’s cooked it good. He always had the TV on an Old Western Movie. He loved playing and making jokes with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, hanging out with his friends, scratching BINGO - scratch-offs. That’s where he obtained the nickname name “The Bingo Man” he was well known at every convenient store around as “The Bingo Man”

Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Jackie Sims; Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law, Lawrence & Lillie Mae Acosta; Granddaughter, Shanda LaNae’ Martinez Edwards; Great-granddaughters, Kayleigh LaNae’ Edwards and Maribelle LaRee Sims.
