Jose was born in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday, September 9, 1944 to Inocencia Armenta and John Varela Armenta. After moving from El Paso, Texas in 2001, he became a longtime resident of Orange, Texas where he was known and loved by many friends and most of all, by his family. Jose met the love of his life when he came to know Lucretia Armenta. The couple shared 23+ years of marriage but made a lifetime of memories together with their children. He was a proud Veteran that was once an Airman in the United States Air Force, from which he retired after many years of proudly serving his country. After his retirement, he began working for the Texas Workforce Commission helping Military Veterans find jobs once they re-entered civilian life. He was a family man through and through, whom could always be counted on whether it be for love, support life lessons, or all the above. He enjoyed going to garage sales with his wife and finding all the, “diamonds in the ruff”, literally. On many occasions he found wonderful pieces of jewelry that he bought for essentially nothing and would resale for a profit. Jose also enjoyed going metal detecting whenever he had the chance. He always told everyone to, “enjoy the little things in life”, just as he did. He was a member of the, Knights of Columbus, as well as, The American Legion and the VFW, all of Orange, Texas. Jose was of the Catholic Faith and a proud member of, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, in Orange, Texas.

Jose was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will forever be loved and missed by all who knew him.

Jose is preceded in death by his parents, John V. Armenta and Inocencia Armenta, as well as his brothers, John Armenta, Jr. and Peter Armenta.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 23+ years, Lucretia Armenta; children, Laurie Armenta, Jose Mendizabal Jr., Jacob Armenta, Melissa Armenta, Jesus Mendizabal, Eteinne Mendizabal, Mary Jones, Leon Mendizabal, and Lucretia Mendizabal; siblings, Alicia Contreras, Edward Armenta, and Virginia Hernandez; ten grandchildren, as well as one great- grandson.
