Karen was born on Saturday, July 7, 1934 in Montgomery, Alabama to parents, Mary and Clifton Prescott. Karen was a lifelong resident of Orange, Texas, after moving from Alabama as a young girl. After Karen graduated, she earned her nursing degree. Karen met the love of her life when she came to know, Thurl Edward Minchew. The couple married on April 22, 1955 and shared 65 blissful years together, along with their 5 wonderful children. She enjoyed all her time she spent caring for others, but overall, she chose to be a homemaker and she was perfect at it. She loved spending quality time with family whenever life allowed her the opportunity. Those grandbabies were truly the light of her life. Her love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was larger than life. They always reciprocated the exact same love and respect right back her. Being outside, gardening and tending to her flowers was one of her very favorite past times, along with her crafts and sewing. She also was wonderfully skillful as crocheting, which is a rare talent now days. When Karen and her husband, Thurl, were younger, they used to love to travel with another couple, Vickie and Ike, that were friends of theirs from the Houston region. They loved going to Vegas in particular. Karen and Thurl were also proud members of the American Legion in Houston. Karen was a Christian woman who believed in our lord and savior, Jesus Christ, with all of her heart.

Karen was a very unique lady who never met a stranger and loved life. Karen was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, who will forever be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Karen is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Thurl Edward Minchew; Children, Brent Wade Minchew, Sr., Brian David Minchew and wife Tammy, Mary Kay Berndt and husband Don, as well as, Carey Allen Minchew and wife Reba; brother, Kenneth Prescott and wife Jackie; 9 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren.
