Laverne (Powell) Simmons

Laverne Powell Simmons, age 86 of Orange, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 in Kountze, Texas. Services to honor Laverne will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 21, 2022 at Dorman Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Wilkinson Cemetery in Orange, Texas. Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday, February 21, 2022 at Dorman Funeral Home.

Laverne was born on September 28, 1935 in Weirgate, Texas to parents Will Felix and Palestine Paul Powell.  Laverne was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aries #2523 and she served in many different officer capacities.  She believed that family always comes first; she was full of life and shared her joy by dancing.  Laverne loved her family and always looked forward to their time spent together. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew her kind and loving spirit.

Laverne was preceded in death by her husband Albert Simmons, her loving parents Will Felix and Palestine Powell; grandson Russell Rumby Jr; brothers Samuel Powell, Lawrence Powell Sr., sisters; Dorris Miller, Minnie Flannigan, Adele Hannah

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Hazel “Scooter” Branham of Orange, Texas, Leslie Branham Rascoe and her husband Jody of Kountze, Texas, Shon Branham of Orange, Texas, Janet Roy of LaPorte, Texas and Teresa Melton of Vidor, Texas.  Her brother Douglas Powell and wife Latoya of Orange, Texas; grandchildren; Brandy Robertson, Crystal Wells, Jessica Calder, Stephanie Robinson, Casie Clennon, Denae Mato, Leeann Mato, Jamie Schiesler, Charity Willinghan, Cayla Court, Harold Hubbard II, Shanna Hubbard, Christopher Hubbard, Thomas Hubbard Jr, Niketa Floyd, Raven Rascoe, and forty one great-grand children and ten great great-grandchildren.
 

Pallbearers to honor Laverne will be Hazel “Scooter” Branham, Dylan Floyd, Thomas Hubbard Jr., Kedrick Harris, Nicholas Provost, Justin Stone and Clifford Locks III
