Mitchell M. Bertrand, 81, passed peacefully from this life on April 4, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 18, 1938 to parents, Elmo and Irene Bertrand. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, grandpa and great-grandpa. He loved everyone he met with his whole heart and never missed a chance to show them with a big kiss on the cheek and tight bear hug.
He was first married to Patricia A. Waggoner on June 8, 1962. They had two beautiful daughters Lorena Bertrand and Leslie Bertrand-Pierce. They remained married for 21 years. He was later reunited with his high school sweetheart, Frances O. Coward-Stephenson and were joined in marriage on June 13, 2002 and they have lived a beautiful life together.
“Pawpaw B”, as everyone called him, spent his life living peacefully in the country, growing satsuma trees, going on jogs through the neighborhood, working multiple gardens, raising chickens and ducks, feeding and listening to the birds, sitting around a campfire, chasing his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, they were the apple of his eye.
He was a faithful member of Ninth & Elm Church of Christ and a Sunday school teacher to many. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and never faltered to share the gospel. His church family also meant the world to him.
He is preceded in death by his parents Elmo & Irene Bertrand; and daughter, Lorena M. Bertrand
He is survived by his wife, Frances O. Bertrand; his daughter, Leslie D. Pierce; his brother, Allen Bertrand & wife Linda; sister, Betty Sherman & husband Doyce; grand children, Jessica Dumesnil & husband Brock, Eric Pierce & wife Lakin, Sydney Brown & husband Tyler; great-grandchildren, Addyson, Harper, Lilian, & Isaac Dumesnil, Denver Pierce and Clara Brown.
A memorial service/celebration of life will be held at a later date, To be announced. Dorman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
