Sophia Brister

Sophia Brister, age 90, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023, in Orange, Texas.  Services to honor Sophia will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Dorman Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow, at Ida Wilson Cemetery. Visitation of family and friends will be held one hour prior from 10:00 Am to 11:00 AM, at Dorman Funeral Home.

Sophia was born Sunday, August 21, 1932, to Grace (Killian) Gibbons and Theodore Gibbons, in Orange, Texas. She was a devout Christian woman, who proudly raised her sons in the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. Sophia also enjoyed supporting her children in all their school activities. She also enjoyed making chunky yarn blankets that she could gift to friends and family, and baking cookies for the children in her neighborhood. Sophia was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who will be missed by all who knew her.

Preceding Sophia in death is her husband, Samuel Brister; son, Justin Brister; parents, Theodore and Grace Gibbons; brother, Donald Gibbens. 

Left to cherish Sophia’s memory is her sons, Larry and wife, Stacey, Donald and wife, Carol; sister, Mary Brister and husband, Edgar; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Sophia may be made to First Baptist Church of Deweyville.
