Thomas Francis Rooney, Sr.

Thomas Francis Rooney, Sr., age 81 of Orange, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in Beaumont, Texas. Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 12:00 PM to 3:000 PM on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Dorman Funeral Home. Funeral services and burial will be held in Summerville, South Carolina.

Thomas was born in Johnson City, Tennessee on February 6, 1940 to Bertha Rhea Rooney and Charles Francis Rooney. He proudly served in the United States Marines and was a Colonel in the Texas Army. He spent countless hours with the members of the Texas Army to help educate the public about Texas History. In doing so the group participated in many different Texas war reenactments, which include the Battle of San Jancinto. He was an electrician with Local 776 of South Carolina and was an Amsoil dealer. Thomas enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his family and friends. He loved to dance and share a “cold one” with his buddies. He will be  greatly missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Lee Rooney, parents Charles and Bertha Rooney and his brother Peter Rooney.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Tom Rooney and his wife Barbie of Buna, TX and Michael Patrick Rooney and his wife Jenny Rose of Houston, grandchildren: Nathan Rooney, Rebecca Rooney, Emily Rooney, Remington Connell, Alexander Connell and Garrison Connell.
