Troy Russell Johnston

Troy Russell Johnston, age74, of Toledo Bend, Texas, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 22, 2020. Arrangements were made under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home. The family will hold a private memorial service to honor Troy’s life at a later date.  

Troy was born in Port Arthur, Texas on Saturday, November 16, 1946, to parents, Emma Mearl (Pinckard) and Samuel “Pat” Johnston. Troy was a longtime resident of South Toledo Bend Lake, Texas. Troy and wife Anita De (Hudson) were married on July 15, 1967.  He was truly a “jack of all trades”, who could fix anything or build anything. It was said by his former boss that, if Troy couldn’t fix it, then it just simply could not be fixed. He enjoyed fishing, restoring old vehicles, built 3 homes as well as several boats! Troy was a Staff Sargeant E5 in the USAF for fours plus several years in the reserves. He was awarded many military accolades. He was an electrical-instrument craftsman on aircrafts and sent behind enemy lines where he fought for our freedom.

After the military, he worked at BF Goodrich in Orange, Owens Illinois and Inland Paperboard, IPP and Republic Paperboard in Lawton, Oklahoma where he was Engineer- maintenance manager for 8 years, working alongside his son Patrick.

Troy was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and wonderful friend, who will forever be loved and +missed.   

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Anita De; son, Patrick and wife Tammy; daughters, Shelly Johnston, as well as, Shannon White; sister, Patricia Wight; grandsons Travis White, as well as, Blake Johnston; nephews, Rob and Jason Wight; best friends, Keith Cloessner, Jimmy Norment, Pete Tomasello, Troy Blakeney and Julian Gross and many more.

Troy is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Emma Johnston, as well as, brother-in-law, Robert “Bert” Wight.
