Vanessa was born in Orange, Texas on Sunday, August 4, 1968, to parents, Cynthia Ann (Ballard) and Harold Wayne Large. Vanessa was a longtime resident of Buna, Texas after moving from Orange. Vanessa came to know the love of her life when she met, Eddie Shannon. The couple married on December 7, 1996, at the home of Ed and Barbra Shannon. Vanessa and Eddie shared 24 years of marriage but made a lifetime of memories. 4 years after they were married, the couple brought their son, Garrett, into the world; which in turn, became their whole world. The small community area known as “the pocket” is where Vanessa and her husband, Eddie, made their homestead in 1998. A very private, peaceful and beautiful country area made the perfect home place for the family. There, Vanessa enjoyed some of the simple pleasures in life that were also the most meaningful and enjoyable; such as hunting, fishing, raising exotic deer, canning, making jelly from the mayhaw’s that she had Eddie pick fresh, right out of the river bottom, going crabbing, as well as, an array of other day to day activities. She absolutely loved being in the outdoors no matter what she was doing. Vanessa was full of life and enjoyed every moment of it. Her favorite flower was the Texas bluebonnet. Family trips were always a wonderful time for Vanessa, her husband Eddie and their son, Garrett. The family loved visiting Branson, Missouri each year. They would always make the most out of their time together by opting not to do tourist activities, but rather, they would rent a cabin right next to the river and fish for trout from the docks, all while spending personal time together and making wonderful memories. Vanessa was a very caring, loving and nurturing woman who made her career taking care of others as a registered nurse. She worked as an RN at, The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, in Port Arthur. Her career consisted of being an RN for over 20 years.

Vanessa was a loving wife, daughter, mother, daughter-in-law, and wonderful friend, who will forever be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 24 years, Eddie Shannon; loving son and only child, Garrett Shannon; parents, Harold and Cindy Large; sisters, Gennie Large and Pam Constance; brothers-in-law, Terry Block and Keith Shannon; sister-in-law, Altonette Shannon; nieces, Hollie Shannon and Tyler Block; nephews, Cole Constance and Hunter Shannon; parents-in-law, Ed and Barbara Shannon.

Vanessa is preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert Large & George and Betty Ballard.
