Velma Acord Obituary

Velma Lee Acord, age 84, of Hartburg, Texas, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Deweyville United Pentecostal Church in Deweyville, Texas with Rev. Rodney Burks, Rev. Michael Orange, Rev. Prentice Burks, and Rev. Nathan Burks officiating services. Interment will immediately follow the services at Deweyville Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at Deweyville United Pentecostal Church, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Velma was born on Friday, April 5, 1935 in Hackberry, Louisiana to parents, Dalita (LeBauve) and Eli Broussard. Velma was a lifelong resident of Hartburg, Texas but spent the last four years of her life living with her son, Prentice and wife Teresa, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. She loved spending quality time with family whenever life allowed her the opportunity. Those grandbabies were truly the light of her life. Entertaining company, as well as using her outstanding cooking skills to make a delicious meal for anyone and everyone, was always something you could find her doing. She truly had a servant’s heart and always provided the best hospitality. Velma was very active in church and loved her church family. She was a proud member of Deweyville United Pentecostal Church, as well as, Life United Pentecostal Church in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Velma was a very unique lady who never met a stranger and loved life. Velma was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend, who will forever be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Velma is survived by her loving children, Harry Bryant Burks and wife Melissa, Daniel Eli Burks and wife Becky, Mark S. Burks and wife Tina, Prentice Burks and wife Teresa, Antoinette (Toni) Davis and husband JP Davis; step children, Harold Acord, Jr., Darrell Acord and Cheryl Lewis; sister, Ruby Bonner and husband Mitty; grandchildren, Brandy Holt, Christie Moss, Derek Moss, Bryant Burks, Harry James Burks, Brandon Burks, Casey Burks, Ashley Williams, Aleisha Bornette, Rodney Burks, Nathan Burks, Tanner Burks, Bryceson Davis and Karli Davis; great-grandchildren, Bryant Burks, Jr., Justin Holt, Logan Holt, Landon Burks, Remi Burks, Tyler Gore, Kaitlyn Moss, Carson Burks, Brayden Burks, Stella Burks, Eli Burks, Latt Burks, Connor Williams, Maddox Williams, Emersyn Bornette, Drex Bornette, Kinsley Burks and Jameson Burks, as well as great-great grandchild, Dayson Holt.

Velma is preceded in death by first husband, James Prentice Burks; second husband, Harold D. Acord; parents, Eli and Dalita Broussard, grandson, Jacob Burks, as well as several brothers and sisters.
