Vernie Mae Burks

The following obituary was lovingly written by Vernie's daughter, Vicki .

Vernie Mae Burks, age 77, of Mauriceville, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Februaury 15, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. Funeral services will be held at Dorman Funeral Home on February 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Friends and family will gather for  visitation from 1:00 PM- 2:00 PM, prior to the funeral service. There will be no graveside burial.

Vernie was born on Wednesday, February 28, 1945 in Silsbee,Texas to parents James J Sr. and Bessie Davidson Coudrain. She met the love of her life at 16 years old and married in 1962 until widowed in December 2020 after 58 years of marriage. She enjoyed gardening, CB radios, street and drag racing, and was an avid watcher of hummingbirds and butterflies.

We have several fond memories of her with the funniest being the time she cleaned the whole kitchen floor of their first apartment in Houston with SEVERAL JARS OF MAYONAISE! !

Preceding Vernie in death are her parents, two brothers and four sisters, her four month old infant son, and her grand daughter, Brittany Lynn Welch.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Welch and Vicki Swire and husband, George, David Burks and wife, Judy, her grandson Charlie Welch and wife Crystal, her grand daughters LaTisha Rene Swire and Casandra Mae Burks, her grand son Dakota Swire, her great grandson Caden Welch, her great granddaughters Calliope "Junebug" June Swire and Lela Welch, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pall bearers will be David Burks, George Swire, Charlie Welch, Caden Welch, Dakota Swire, and Billy Davis. Honorary pall bearers will be Gary Don Johnston, Russell Swire, Lynn Suire, and DWeyne Suire.
