On Tuesday, October 14, 1947, Vertice was born in Orange, Texas, to Edna Mae and Willie Vertice Head. He was a lifelong resident of Orange, where he and his wife of 39 years, Rosetta, raised their beautiful family. Vertice held the rank of Petty Officer Second Class, in the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War, and was proud to be a member of the Masonic Lodge, in Orange and Bridge City. He was a simple and humble man, who always wore a smile. Vertice retired after many years of working as an electrician and was also known as a “jack of all trades”. In his spare time, Vertice enjoyed woodworking. He was proud of his truck, especially its stereo equipment, and could always be heard going down the road, playing his favorite country music.
Vertice is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Rosetta Jeanette Head; parents, Willie and Edna Head; and sisters, Jeleta Head Miles and Verlene Head Hammett.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Heather Head (Kevin Rozas), of Orange, Texas, Melissa Stricker (James Stricker), of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Arron Thompson (Darami Thompson), of Fort Wayne, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Ashlie Franklin, MalyK Head, Marklynn Thompson, Drauna Thompson, NyKole Stricker, Taylor Stricker, Heavenle Lingad, Christian Barrow, Lil Vertice Head, and Keiley Rozas; one great-grandson; and numerous members of extended family and friends.
